New Media Tuesday: Argonautica Suite posted by Ben

Today's media clip is an eleven minute piano suite from my jazz musical Argonautica. Woven throughout the music you will hear references to last week's vocal piece, "Midnight Garden". Listen as well for how each melody returns at the end over a 6/8 bass ostinato. What the piano arrangement cannot convey is that in the musical, each of these pieces fits together harmonically at the end, despite being in different keys and time signatures, to convey musically how the story's narrative threads are converging.

(I should also mention that listening to this recording a few years after I made it, I am somewhat disappointed by elements of my performance, specifically in the part midway through that's meant to evoke cheesy 70's musicals. My apologies for the irregular tempo in that section. Perhaps someday I will find real jazz pianist to perform it for me.)
