Spiderman's Greatest Bible Stories & More!

I know, I know, it's a just a link without commentary, but what could I really say about Spiderman's Greatest Bible Stories?
Hooray for the Portland Mercury, whose pages totally helped me find a movie I wanted to see once.

I'm doing a critical screening of The Talented Mr. Ripley this afternoon. I've only seen it once before, in a small town Midwest theater. Naturally, the audience was shocked and horrified by what they thought would be a thriller. (According to them, it was a boring snoozefest about nasty homosexuals. I hate watching movies in the Midwest.) I remember seeing an incredibly subtle film about the nature of evil. More on this once I've rewatched it, taken some notes, and dug into its thematic subtext.

I've been thinking about the stereotype of no-nothing Hollywood liberals who supposedly don't have the smarts to have a legitimate political point of view. What about the people like me who got into movies because they had something political to say that is informed by real-world experience and activism? Does making a movie somehow delegitimate my point of view? If so, perhaps I would be better off working with 'real' entertainers who can be as idiotically political as they want to, like talk radio hosts. What makes one entertainment medium OK and one automatically suspect when it comes to politics? Now there's a frame that I wouldn't mind altering the common paradigm on!
