Gunner Palace Movie Review

The film Gunner Palace begins screening today in a number of theaters around the country. It is receiving critical acclaim from a surprisingly wide swath of the political spectrum, in large part because it takes time to show what American soldiers in Iraq are actually experiencing, for better or for worse.

I offer my strongest possible encouragement to my readers to find time to see the film. Anything that potentially cuts through the politicized rhetoric about the war to look at our soldiers' on-the-ground experience directly is worth watching, not only to keep the costs of this war fresh in our minds, but as a sign of respect for the troops who are over in Iraq (and Afghanistan, too!) fighting and dying.

I will be seeing the film today or tomorrow and will try to get a review out before my conference trip next week.
