Inside Deep Throat Panel Retreads the Past
posted by Ben

Inside Deep Throat caused quite a ruckus at a recent star-studded panel discussion.

Funny. And sad. Yet funny. One quote from the linked article about the New York screening stands out:
Adjourning to the after party at 81/2, Michael Musto said, "Congratulations, you've managed to incite the exact same debate that happened 30 years ago. People said exactly the same things they said decades ago. That really takes some doing."
Regardless of where people may stand on the complicated social and moral issues surrounding pornography, it is telling that various mainstream positions on the issues seem to have calcified, rather than evolved. Oh, well. As Republican Senator Tom Coburn from Oklahoma recently claimed that "women with breast implants are healthier than women without," and didn't get laughed out of the Senate, I suppose it would be too much to expect actual scientific or respectable academic debate on the intersection of sexuality and culture to have any traction in our public (or political) discourse. Where's Crossfire when you need it? I'm not getting my daily fix of idiots yelling at each other.
